Tampa is known for it’s haunted areas including Ybor City where you can take tours and hear about scary ghost stories. These spirits seem to become more active this time of year so if you want to take part in any spooky fun we’ve compiled a list of 5 places you can visit this weekend. Let us know if you see something ghostly!

The City of Tampa was called “the damnedest city this side of Hell” mainly because of the rum runners and bootleggers that lived in the area a long time ago. There’s many stories is frightening events and eerie sightings around the Bay area.

  • 1. Ybor City - Cuban Club

    A piano will mysteriously play at the Cuban Club with odd shadowy movements after two deaths that happened in the 1920s. An actor died by suicide on stage and a member of the board was murdered during an argument and there’s been multiple reports that they still appear in the building.

  • 2. Downtown Tampa - Tampa Theatre

    It’s rumored that the Tampa Theatre is haunted all year long not just during the month of October. Foster “Fink” Finley, was the theater’s projectionist for decades and after he died the rumor is he never left. Employee’s often hear doors slam, chains rattling, doors opening and closing behind the stage. Also, Rosa Rio who passed away at 107 was the organist at the theatre. Many staff members still hear the organ randomly playing when no one else is in the building making people think she’s still playing music to this day.

  • 3. University of Tampa - Plant Hall

    Many famous people have stayed at The University of Tampa in the Plant Hall which used to be a hotel. Previous visitors were Theodore Roosevelt, the Queen of England and even Babe Ruth. It’s said to be very haunted to this day with UT students reportedly seeing odd shadows from the windows outside. There’s also a rumor that previous servants are said to haunt the science wing on the premises.

  • 4. The Sunshine Skyway Bridge

    The previous Sunshine Skyway Bridge was completely destroyed by a freighter in 1980 taking multiple care and even a Greyhound bus into the bay. It’s said that the ghost bus is seen by visitors who are at the fishing pier which is actually a small part of the old bridge. Also, since the bridge is so tall there’s been more than 200 suicides where people will jump to their deaths.

  • 5. The Britton Theatre in South Tampa

    You can actually still go see a movie at the theatre because it’s currently open. Previous employees and guests have reported experiencing many unusual occurrences, even though no one died there. Doors in the ladies’ room will shut and lock and toilets flush when no one is there. Voices are heard in the hall near auditorium No. 5 late at night. An usher heard someone call his name in auditorium No. 3 and visions have been seen in the balcony.
