Orlando & The Freakshow

First Time In Years

Bolts Nation hasn’t has this much free time in 3 years, so I have a few things for Lightning fans to do.  Let’s be real, we’ve gotten used to playoff hockey.  The Lightning has done us incredibly well.  Last 9 years, we’ve only missed the playoffs twice so many of you haven’t been outside the ice, in May.  This list of things to do is for your new found freedom.  Who wants to watch The Panthers manhandle the Maple Leafs.  Not me.  I’ll take a 5 pound ice cream cone over that any day.

Tampa Bay is growing at an insane pace and the activities are sick.  So while we stay away from television and the ice, these options are perfect for date nights, time with the friends, ore to get your mind off of how it ended.  May isn’t that bad.  Check these options out and you’ll be as popular as Vasy, in your own house again.

Designed by Tiger Woods, this approach to miniature golf is top notch. No old, worn down greens, great food, and awesome drinks. There are Pop Stroke locations “popping” up all over the country and it’s surely deserving of a visit from our newly available Bolts fanbase.

  • VR - Galaxy Lounge - Tampa Palms

Gaming, virtual reality and simulators taken to another level at this newly created tech treasure spot.  Escape rooms are an experience times 10, with the addition of VR.  In addition team building exercises are great in this space.  Welcome to the future.

  • Fairgrounds St. Pete

This indoor artist made environment is another nod to changes for the future.  I love how they describe it as a “choose your own experience art museum” but it’s so much more.  Jazz performances and numerous interactions with the are and fun.  St. Pete is growing and the variety is moving right along with it.  Brand new and waiting for you.

  • Xtreme Tacos - Seminole Heights

I ain’t gonna lie, food was not gonna be on this listing but some things are so damn awesome, that they deserve to be in your head as you roam around avoiding hockey.  Xtreme Tacos is a great spot for tacos, bowls, and tasty, Mexican offerings.  Their quesadillas are huge and they do birria incredibly but this mention is all about the  STONER BURRITO! It’s a foot and a half long and loaded goodness.  I’m literally planning a cheat meal, to include this thing.  I even know the time that I’ll eat it.  5:20pm.  I’m in love.

  • ShowbarYbor - Ybor City

The only dueling pianos showcase location in Tampa, ShowbarYbor is a completely great time.  It’s a Mardi Gras, party atmosphere with awesome LIVE music.  It’s an instant fun spot and worth a try, on a night out (away from the ice).

  • Exotic Jet Cars - Tampa

You’ve seen these on your timeline and don’t lie – you’ve wanted to do it too! This is real fun. Imagine a boat, that is driven like a car and has the style of a high end, European sports car. Tunes on blast, your lady of bff in the passengers seat and a great time in the sun. Don’t take my word for it, check out superstar movie mogul, Will Packer, whipping around Tampa’s water.

This is not the old pier experience that you remember. New look and lots of new fun. With the food and drinks, it can be a full day. In addition, extras like the outdoor roller rink that just ended it’s run, or 4th of July fireworks on the way, make it a great place to spend some newly found free time.

Your choice of go karts, arcade and laser tag OR bowling or maybe you wanna hit the ropes course. This spot is opening in a few weeks and most of my Carrollwood and Citrus Park friends are ready! They’ve said end of May but from folks who have started working there, the launch is soon. Check out this brand new spot.
