Orlando & The Freakshow

In college when a hurricane was about to hit we would always have a party to celebrate classes being canceled. At that time, we didn’t own much so we could drink, party and not worry about any of our stuff getting destroyed. Now, things are a little different especially if you live in Florida. Some of us own property, businesses and have children we need to protect. It is imperative to be prepared and have a good plan in place to be able to endure the storm.

For starters, everyone knows you need to get sandbags, batteries, candles and also prepare for all your stores to be shut down. But, what if you’re the one that’s hosting everyone for a hurricane party your house?! Not only does that mean it is important that you are prepared with all of the essentials, but now you are also responsible for what can be argued as THE MOST crucial item of the house… FUN!

So stay safe, protect yourself and have a glass of wine to relive the days when you didn’t have so many responsibilities. Here are some of the essential items you need to hunker down and ensure you are fulfilling your duties as host of your Hurricane Party.

Are we missing anything from the Hurricane Party Essential list?

  • Cups

For obvious reasons, the cups are a necessity. The last thing you want is dishes piling up while the water is out. But the real reason why we need these red cups are for THE GAMES! You can’t play Beer pong, flip cup, or practically any drinking game without CUPS! Another Life hack for the cups is they can be used as speakers! If your having trouble hearing music from your phone and you want to make it louder, just put your phone in a cup with the speaker facing down. Just make sure the cup is dry.

  • Alcohol

Honestly, this probably should be number 1 on the list. Arguably the most important item for any hurricane party. When you go to the store to pick up your cases of water, make sure to go by the alcohol and pick up 3 days worth of booze. You will probably go through all of it on the 1st day, but hopefully that’s all the time you need to be cooped up in the house.

  • Wine Key

This may seem like an obvious item on the list, but how many times have you been to a party without one? With everything going on and everyone panicking, it could be very easy to forget about this essential tool. Wine keys are not only important for your bottles of wine, but also to open up bottles, cans, boxes and even packages if scissors or knives are not around.

  • Cooler

It’s all fun and games till the power goes out. And when it does. at least you will know you will have ice cold drinks ready. Not only is the cooler important for your drinks, but also for you perishables if anything happens to your refrigerator. Even the melted ice can come in handy later on if you need water to fill up your toilets and use the bathroom.

  • Board Games

If you aren’t having enough fun playing drinking games, board games are a great alternative. Board games turned into drinking games are even better. These games become essential when the power goes out. You can never go wrong with some of the classics like Monopoly, Shoots & Ladders, Guess Who and many more. But if have some males and females that want to tangle up and get “physical”, throw in some twister and get ready to laugh.

  • Portable Speaker

If my cup hack didn’t work for you (see cups listicle), you can always spend some money and get yourself a good portable speaker. This is a great investment for the future sunny beach days you will be daydreaming about during the storm, but also to keep the party going while you wait the storm out. The speakers are also a great communication device in case something happens to your phone.

  • Glow Sticks

A true example of an item that can be used for fun and safety. Get yourself some glowsticks and enjoy a Lights Out Hurricane Party with that portable speaker you just invested in. Have some fun with your closest friends if the power goes out, or just turn out the lights yourself and let loose. Either way, the glowsticks can be used to help illuminate the room if the lights aren’t working or as a great “toy” for the kids to stay occupied with. These will also help save some batteries and power for your flashlights if you need them down the road.
