Lauryn Hill & Fugees Tour Canceled Days Before Kickoff
The U.S. tour featuring Ms. Lauryn Hill and the Fugees, scheduled for late summer and fall, has been canceled. Ticketmaster has removed the dates, and ticketholders received refund notices late Tuesday (Aug. 6), though no reason was provided in these notices.
Fans received a brief message from Live Nation stating, “Your event has been canceled. A refund will be on its way to your account soon.” The tour was set to start on Friday in Tampa, with the American leg concluding at the Hollywood Bowl on Sept. 17 and additional shows in New York and New Jersey on Sept. 20-21. Other affected cities included Atlanta, Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston, and Milwaukee, totaling 18 U.S. dates.
Despite the cancellation of the U.S. dates, tickets for the overseas portion of the tour, starting in Manchester, England, on Oct. 12 and ending in Amsterdam on Oct. 22, remain available. It’s unclear whether these European dates will also be canceled or continue as planned.
As of now, Lauryn Hill’s social media profiles have not provided any updates about the tour status. Her most recent tweet on X (formerly Twitter) dates back to the tour announcement in late June.
This marks the third year in a row that Hill and her reunited group have canceled some or all of their tour dates, leaving some fans posting about the repeat false alarms being “disheartening.”
“ITS SO DISHEARTENING BEING A FAN OF LAURYN HILL. Last October, a hour before the show in Dallas, it was cancelled with no warning,” someone ITS SO DISHEARTENING BEING A FAN OF LAURYN HILL. Last October, a hour before the show in Dallas, it was cancelled with no warning. I tried again this run even when EVERYONE clowned me saying I was foolish for trying. Cancelled AGAIN. I love Lauryn man. But damn yo. DO BETTER.
Last November, Hill and the Fugees announced that they would pause the tour due to vocal strain, with Hill stating, “I’ve been battling serious vocal strain for the past month… I need to take time off to allow for real vocal recovery so that I can discontinue the medication completely.”
A reunion tour with the Fugees was first announced in 2021, then postponed and finally canceled in January 2022, due to ongoing COVID conditions. Although the group managed to perform several shows last year, they were well received. Before the 2024 tour announcement, Hill had performed a few one-off shows in various locations, including Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Canada, and Las Vegas, and appeared at the BET Awards on June 30.
