Childish Gambino Lights Up Tampa At Amalie Arena
Childish Gambino’s “The New World Tour” has been a massive success, showcasing some of the best concert productions and an amazing performance I’ve seen this year. The tour has set a new standard for how artists should give their fans an unforgettable experience, I walked away from the show comparing it to the legendary & my favorite concert ever, Kanye West’s Glow in The Dark Tour for its stage set up and high energy.
From the moment the show started, it was clear that Gambino was intent on giving Tampa an unforgettable show. At times he challenged the fans to bring the energy better than his last show in Nashville, and luckily Amalie Arean understood the assignment. The production of “The New World Tour” was unmatched, I haven’t seen production like this before. Gambino had a live band with him that really killed it. The visuals were great, and the light show was insane. The tour’s vibe was like I was watching Kanye West’s epic Glow in The Dark Tour. Every piece of the production was made to perfection to be in sync with Donald Glover’s performance, and it was a non-stop party from start to finish.
Gambino’s setlist was mapped out perfectly. He balanced his new music off his two recent projects with the songs we know and love off albums like my favorite, Because the internet. He performed songs like “This is America,” “Sober,” & my favorite song, “Telegraph Ave.” I wasn’t too familiar with the songs from his new releases but, the performance made me want to go back and tap in because they resonated well with fans, who were treated to one hell of an experience of Gambino’s sound and creative vision that has evolved over the years. However, it was the second part of the show where he went in on all his classic hits that truly got the crowd hyped. He even let fans pick songs to perform. Each classic record was met with roars and screams of excitement, and Gambino’s delivered.
Childish Gambino’s “The New World Tour” has really set the bar high for concerts for the rest of the year, and unfortunately, it’s the last tour he’s ever doing. He really went out with a bang.
