That Viral Video of the Columbia Restaurant Flooded… Is Old
During the crazy past 24 hours of dealing with Hurricane Debby, social media becomes filled with wannabe journalists. Well one just got called out. Did you see the video of the Columbia Restaurant flooded? It’s legit. But it’s old.
The famed restaurant with the flagship location in Ybor City was probably fielding calls from concerned customers after a video went viral today. It showed the Sarasota location with scary water levels that appear to be posing a big threat to the business. Going just on the video you might think that the Columbia Restaurant in Sarasota might be closed for months… if not for good.
Apparently not. The Columbia Restaurant just posted to social media that the video indeed IS legitimate. It’s just very outdated. The video was taken two months ago. And get this… they reopened the next day according to the tweet.
So yeah if you choose to get your updates from unofficial sources online about the weather… or anything else, make sure it’s a source you can trust.
We are in an election year and social media tends to show you what you want to see whether it’s accurate or not. Social media sites make their money with advertising. They care more about getting you to see those ads than anything else. If you see stuff that you don’t agree with, you’ll get frustrated and leave. That’s lost money for them.
Anyway, back to the Columbia Restaurant in Sarasota. It’s fine. Go enjoy a 1905 Salad or a Cuban sandwich. Or better yet go during the lunch hour and get the combo. That’s one of my favorite lunches in Florida.
