2019 BET Awards: Marsha Ambrosius, YG, And More Honor Nipsey Hussle
On Sunday night, Marsha Ambrosius, YG, DJ Khaled, and John Legend honored the late Nipsey Hussle at the 19th annual BET Awards in Los Angeles at the Microsoft Theatre.
Ambrosius, who also sang at Nipsey Hussle’s funeral opened up the tribute to Hussle. “The marathon continues. Now throw your deuces in the air,” Ambrosius sang at the beginning of her performance. She then performed Nipsey Hussle’s song, “Real Big” featuring herself that’s on the Los Angeles rapper’s debut album, Victory Lap.
YG then took to the stage and performed Hussle’s track, “Last Time That I Checc’d” that features himself and is also on Victory Lap. Nipsey Hussle’s family looked on from the audience during the heartwarming performance. When DJ Khaled and John Legend performed Khaled’s single, “Higher” that featured Nipsey Hussle and Legend, his family was visibly seen standing up in the audience while singing along.
Hussle’s sister, Samantha Smith sang along while holding onto one of the awards that Nipsey Hussle posthumously won. The “Ocean Views” rapper won for “Best Male Hip-hop Artist” and the “Humanitarian Award.”
