Former Tampa Bay Buccaneer In Hospice Care At Age 33
A former Tampa Bay Buccaneer and Florida State Seminole linebacker is fighting for his life.
Geno Hayes, a former NFL player is in hospice care at his parents home in Georgia. He is facing liver failure following two years of liver disease. According to ESPN.com, Hayes had been on a list for a liver transplant.
He was initially diagnosed with cirrhosis, and later with chronic liver disease. Hayes told ESPN that he was not a drinker, but blames the health issues to taking over-the-counter pain medications.
Geno was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 6th round in 2008. He had a successful career at Florida State University and was honored as an All-ACC player in 2007. He played four seasons for the Buccaneers, replacing Derrick Brooks in 2009. He also played for the Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars during his NFL career.
