The Kid Mero Speaks On Desus Split For The First Time
NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 03: The Kid Mero speaks during "Desus & Mero" FYC event at Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse at Lincoln Center on May 03, 2019 in New York City.
The Kid Mero is speaking on his split from Desus Nice for the first time. The comedians have been working together for about a decade before their breakup was announced last week. Rumors ignited from fans on Twitter before Showtime confirmed that Desus & Mero would not be coming back for a fifth season. Now, Mero is expressing how he feels about the split.
“It’s just a natural progression. It’s like we said on the podcast, ‘It’s Hollywood, baby.’ You develop strengths and things that you want to explore and do,” he said, according to Complex.
“And then things just happen naturally,” he added. “It’s like Spike Jonze said on the Viceland show, ‘Everything is finite.’ What’s the corny cliche? Don’t be sad that it’s gone. Be happy that you experienced it.”
Mero then mentioned that there is a possibility that he and Desus could work together again in the future but wants to use this opportunity to grow.
“Everybody grows. I’m sure D’s got his things that he wants to do,” Mero expressed. “I got my things I want to do, and they’re very specific to us. We’ve been a duo for a long time. I love everything that he’s done. It’s just natural. I’ve got my life, my worldview, my things going on, and he’s got his. So, it’s only right that, instead of just saying like, we’re only going to do this one thing…we explore. Let’s break out, let’s see what we do as individuals, and then form like, Voltron later on. Who knows?”
Although Mero admitted that he is hurting at the moment, fans will be excited to know that there is a possibility that he and Desus could reunite in the future.
‘Desus & Mero’ Fans Are Devastated Over Alleged Breakup Of Comedy Duo
After 10 years of working together, Desus and Mero have fallen victim to breakup rumors. The comedy duo consisting of Desus Nice (Daniel Baker) and The Kid Mero (Joel Armogasto Martinez) have been around for nearly a decade and during that time they have collaborated on multiple creative projects including podcasts and television shows. The two were recently granted another season for Desus & Mero on Showtime but the network has not announced an air date at this time.
A Desus and Mero fan-run Instagram account posted a screenshot of the two comedians going back and forth with one another. In June, Desus tweeted, “bodegahive you think I abandoned y’all but the art is coming back. Plz believe in me, I love y’all.”
More recently, Mero took to Reddit to express frustration at this comedic partner, “NAH IT’S A WRAP BRODY, SOMEBODY MENTIONED DUDE TWEETING THAT FROM SOME COUNTRY AT LIKE 3AM. I TOURED WITH DUDE FOR YEARS HE WAS FUBAR AND IN HIS BAG. PODCAST DONE ENJOY THE BACK CATALOG MY PALS.”
Desus responded by tweeting, “I tried ya’ll.”
