Tiffany Haddish Reaches Settlement With Accusers: Report
Tiffany Haddish has reached a settlement with her accusers, RadarOnline reports. According to court documents obtained by RadarOnline, the comedian and the two accusers suing her and Aries Spears for sexual assault worked out an agreement privately. The outlet does not specify if Spears is a part of the settlement, as details behind the agreement have also been kept confidential at this time.
Haddish and Spears made headlines earlier this month when news broke that the comedians were facing a lawsuit alleging sexual battery, sexual harassment, and sexual abuse of a minor. A lawsuit was filed on August 30 to the Los Angeles County Superior Court by a 22-year-old woman identified as Jane Doe and for her brother, a minor born in 2007 who is identified as John Doe. John Doe is under Jane Doe’s legal guardianship. The suit alleges that both of them were assaulted by Haddish and Spears in Los Angeles years ago when they were minors.
“Plaintiff’s mother … has been trying to assert these bogus claims against Ms. Haddish for several years,” Haddish’s lawyer Andrew Brettler said in a statement shared with USA TODAY. “Every attorney who has initially taken on her case – and there were several – ultimately dropped the matter once it became clear that the claims were meritless and Ms. Haddish would not be shaken down.”
Spears’ legal team is using the same terminology. In a statement to USA TODAY, Spears’ attorney Debra Opri said the comedian “isn’t going to fall for any shakedown.”
Both comedians later broke their silence about the case. The Girls Trip actress took to Instagram and wrote, “I know people have a bunch of questions. I get it. I’m right there with you. Unfortunately, because there is an ongoing legal case, there’s very little that I can say right now.”
“But,” she continued, “clearly, while this sketch was intended to be comedic, it wasn’t funny at all – and I deeply regret having agreed to act in it. I really look forward to being able to share a lot more about this situation as soon as I can.”
Spears didn't say much about the case but a day following Haddish’s statement he spoke about it briefly in a preview to his podcast “Spears & Steinberg,” Since the lawsuit was pending at the time he called the lawsuit an “extortion case” and a shakedown, saying, “We won’t be shaken down.” He then thanked his fans for their support during this time.
