Will Smith Reportedly Tried To Make Amends With Chris Rock
Will Smith tried to make amends with Chris Rock following the slap at the Oscars ceremony last year, according to PEOPLE. The publication claims to have spoken with a source who knows about Smith attempting to reach out to the comedian.
“He’s tried unsuccessfully to make amends in the best way he could with Chris,” the source claims. “But beyond that, family is important to him and [Smith] leaned on them. It all has helped him look inside and mature. He is better but still remorseful. Will listened to those who tried to help him and feels that he has become a better person.”
On Rock’s Netflix comedy special Selective Outrage, the comedian spoke about the incident in-depth for the first time in public and he did not hold back.
“Y’all know what happened to me, getting smacked by ‘Suge’ Smith. It still hurts. I got ‘Summertime’ ringing in my ears,” he said. “But I’m not a victim, baby. You’ll never see me on Oprah or Gayle crying. You will never see it. Never gonna happen. … No, I took that hit like Pacquiao.”
Rock even took jabs at the Smith’s marriage. The two have been open about their issues, discussing them on Jada’s Facebook Live show the Red Table Talk.
“His wife was f—ing her son’s friend,” he said in reference to Jada speaking about her “entanglement” with singer August Alsina on her show. He further stated, “She hurt him way more than he hurt me. … Everybody called him a bitch, and who’s he hit? Me! A n—- he knows he can beat. That is some bitch a– s—.”

Although Smith has reportedly not made amends with Rock as of yet, the Bad Boys actor did publicly apologize to Rock the day following the incident.
The day after the incident the actor apologized to Rock and everyone affected in an Instagram post.
“Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable,” it read. “Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally. I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”
Smith’s Oscar slap cost him a ban from the Academy’s award show for 10 years.
