St. Petersburg Interstate Overnight Closure For Construction

There will be an interstate overnight closure. Those who may be traveling on interstate 275 in St. Petersburg should probably be aware of a closure tonight and its detours.

There are periodically closures on I-275 on both sides of Tampa Bay. In St. Pete, this is during the building of the new bridge and Gateway Expressaway. The updated on and off ramps, and occasionally the installation of overhead signs have affected traffic.

Tonight, work will affect the northbound lanes. Detoured traffic will exit I-275 in St. Petersburg

The closure will begin at 11 p.m., weather pernitting. Drivers headed north on I-275, expect to detour at Gandy Blvd. (Exit 28).  This segment of I-275 will reopen at 5 a.m. If you take this route, be sure to add a little extra time for your drive.

Here is the detour to take during this time.

Traffic on I-275 northbound must exit onto eastbound Gandy Blvd. Stay eastbound on Gandy and turn north onto Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. St. From there, take Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. St. back onto I-275 north. The next exit will be on the Tampa side of the bay.

For those who are looking to take Roosevelt Blvd., follow this route to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. St. and turn north. Then, turn whichever direction (left or right) at the traffic light at Dr. MLK, JR. St. and Roosevelt Blvd.

These plans are all ‘weather permitting’. If the weather does not hold out, we’ll let you know what date this will happen.

We’ll continue to list any interstate overnight closure to help your Tampa Bay area travel. Southbound I-275 will also be affected Tuesday night.
