Cardi B and Shakira Drop ‘Punteria’
Cardi B and Shakira’s first collab has arrived. The two partnered up for Shakira’s “Punteria” from her new album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, which was also released today (March 22).
Earlier this week, the Bronx native revealed that the two would be working together on Million Dollaz Worth of Game.
“I always wanted to do a record with Shakira, and it’s like, wow, it landed on my lap,” she says at the 48:48 mark. “It really landed on my lap, so I got a record coming out with her next week.”
On Shakira’s side, the Latin superstar said that she thought Cardi would make a great fit for “Punteria.”
“We were always discussing internally if it was a good idea to put someone on this song. I always pictured Cardi on this song. I reached out, and here we are,” Shakira said per Billboard.
Cardi said that she first connected with Shakira during Paris Fashion Week. Cardi told Shakira that her sister Hennessy performed one of Shakira’s songs in a first-grade talent show and won. The Bronx native told the Colombian superstar that “you’re a part of my life” because of that moment. The story must have gone over well because Cardi followed up by saying that her team reached out to her after the two initial meetings.
“Making this body of work has been an alchemical process,” Shakira previously said in a statement about Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran. “While writing each song, I was rebuilding myself. While singing them, my tears transformed into diamonds, and my vulnerability into strength.”
