2 Florida Cities Among the Hottest in America This Year
If you feel like it’s extra hot outside, that’s because it’s hotter than normal this summer. In fact, experts say that this summer is one of the hottest in America ever, including in two Florida cities. Monday (July 23) was actually the hottest day ever on the planet, beating a record set just the day before, according to the European climate change service. Satellite data from Copernicus shows that Monday was 0.06 degrees Celsius (0.1 degree Fahrenheit) warmer than Sunday. So, it’s sizzling out there, not just in America but around the world.

In fact, cities in almost every U.S. state are looking to have one of their 10-warmest summers on record, according to CNN, on top of that, 100 of those areas are experiencing their hottest start to summer they’ve ever had. “Heat is normal during the summer, but this year’s has been anything but, and halfway through the season’s hottest month it’s clear this one is for the record books,” CNN states.
So, was this expected? Definitely. Forecasters across the country have been predicting record heat for a while now, especially due to La Niña and global climate trends. According to the national weather service, last summer was the warmest on record for the entire world.
It’s worth noting that if you have to be outside during a heat wave, you should take extra precautions. The experts at Weather.com say the best thing to do is to stay hydrated. Don’t wait until you actually feel thirsty to drink fluids. They also note to “Limit your sun exposure by staying in the shade or using an umbrella” and “wear sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat or cap.” Another interesting tip from them is that if you work outside and are near cold water, to soak your shirt and repeat that process each hour or whenever it dries out. I’ve never thought of doing anything like that, but it makes sense. Of course, if you don’t have to be outside, then you should really avoid being outside during a dangerous heat wave. Stay in an air-conditioned area, if at all possible.

According to CNN, they’re Plant City, with the average temperature this summer of 86.4 °F and the departure from normal at +3.6 °F, and Tampa, with the average temperature this summer of 84.9 °F and the departure from normal at +3.6 °F. I feel hot just thinking about it. As for more cities that are the hottest in America this year, No. 1 is Las Vegas, Nevada, with the average temperature of 96.5 °F and departure from normal at +7.3 °F. The second hottest city in America is Redding, California, followed by Blue Canyon, California and Reno, Nevada.
