Kanye: Mother of George Floyd’s Daughter Sues Rapper For $250 Million
Kanye is being sued by the mother of George Floyd’s daughter, Gianna, for the remarks he made recently on Drink Champs.
The interview has since been taken down, but the consequences for Kanye’s remarks are catching up with the rapper. Roxie Washington, the mother of Floyd’s only daughter Gianna, announced Tuesday (Oct. 18), that she has hired a team of legal professionals to go after Ye, according to TMZ.
The rapper’s business partners and associates have also been named in the suit. Washington will be coming for them “for harassment, misappropriation, defamation, and infliction of emotional distress.” She is seeking $250 million in damages.
Washington’s legal team also sent a cease-and-desist letter, obtained by the outlet, for Kanye’s comments.
The letter reads, in part, “Mr. Floyd’s cause of death is well-settled through evidence presented in courts of law during the criminal and civil trials that were the result of his untimely and horrific death. Nevertheless, you have maliciously made statements that are inaccurate and unfounded, causing damage to Mr. Floyd’s estate and his family.”
Kanye went on Drink Champs Saturday (Oct. 15) saying that Floyd died due to an alleged usage of fentanyl and that the cop’s knee wasn’t “on his neck like that.”
The Floyd family says Kanye’s statements are “blatantly false” and “malicious” the tabloid reports. They also mentioned that Floyd’s eight-year-old daughter is being “retraumatized” by Kanye’s comments, which they say are “creating an unsafe and unhealthy environment for her.”
In the cease-and-desist, the family’s lawyers demand Kanye to not mention George Floyd’s name and remove any similar statements on Floyd from the internet.
We previously reported that Candace Owens might also be named in the suit due to her documentary Black Lives Matter, The Greatest Lie Ever Sold: George Floyd and the Rise of BLM. However, the controversial personality has not been named at this time.
Civil Rights attorney Lee Merritt previously stated that he and the family have to go through her documentary to see exactly what was said to see if any legal action can be taken.
