In April, the Tampa Bay Business Journal reported that Dick’s Sporting Goods was in discussions with Tampa International Plaza’s owners to relocate its Westshore Plaza store. With building permits now filed under the House of Sport label, the new concept is officially making its way to Tampa Bay.
Following Lifetime Fitness’s move to its new location at the former Harbour Island Athletic Club, Dick’s seized the opportunity to expand, bringing the House of Sport concept to Tampa’s International Plaza.
I’ve had the chance to visit a Dick’s House of Sport in Knoxville, Tennessee, and it’s way different from a standard Dick’s Sporting Goods. It offers not just athletic gear and apparel but also amenities like athletic training facilities, rock climbing walls, batting cages, and outdoor fields, creating an all-around experience. My husband and I would often spend the day there just to take it all in. As an added bonus, it was also a gathering place for special events, tailgates, and athlete meet-n-greets.
