St. Pete Update on Traffic Signals, Police Services, No Looting
St. Petersburg officials updated residents this morning on social media on the things many will be curious about now that Hurricane Ian has left the area. They say 79 traffic signals are out throughout the city. They are getting generators and stop signs to traffic lights and police officers will be on hand to monitor them if needed.
They say St. Petersburg did not appear to have suffered significant damage. There are numerous reports of downed trees and power lines though. Teams are heading out now to remove debris. Pinellas County officials announced this morning that mandatory evacuations will be lifted at 9am.
St. Petersburg police services have resumed to normal. Their fire department responded to one house fire at 10:14 p.m. They say that it appeared to be electrical in nature. The fire was put out in 13 minutes and no one was injured and there was only minor damage. A tree caught fire from downed power lines but was contained.
St. Pete Police say there are no reports of looting as of yet and ask you to please stay off the roads today as crews clear power lines and trees and until power is restored to those traffic signals.
