The Florida Aquarium Is Getting Some New Animals
The Florida Aquarium is growing!! They announced a $40 million dollar expansion to the aquarium. This will be the aquarium’s first major expansion project since the ribbon cutting back in 1995. The expansion will include an outdoor sea lion habitat and more. The aquarium said the project will happen in three phases with construction set to begin in January 2023 and expected to be done in 2025.
Other exhibit included in the build out will be a rotating special gallery, which will take over the second-floor lobby turning it into a multi-species gallery, featuring puffins. The big project will be the outdoor exhibit that will be the home of California sea lions and will be a first on the west coast of Florida.
At the press conference, The Florida Aquarium president and CEO Roger Germann said, “Today we take a major step forward in building the world-class aquarium that Tampa Bay deserves.”
