Tragedy Leaves 18-Month-Old Dead In Lakeland
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said an 18-month-old girl died a “torturous death” after she was left in a hot car following a Fourth of July party in Lakeland. During a press conference the sheriff said Joel and Jazmine Rondon, came home from the party around 2 a.m. While unloading their car, Jazmine reportedly told Joel to bring their 18-month-old inside while she put their two other children, aged 6 and 8, to bed.
When Joel came back outside, he noticed that all four doors on the vehicle were closed. So he assumed his wife grabbed the toddler and the couple went to sleep. The next morning around 11 a.m. Joel asked his 8-year-old if they had seen the toddler. The 8-year-old said the baby was not in the bedroom. Joel then used outside and saw the toddler was still strapped in her car seat and unresponsive. She was rushed to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center, where she later died.
An autopsy showed the cause of death was hyperthermia and it was ruled a homicide. The couple was arrested for aggravated manslaughter of a child. [Source: WFLA]
