Saturday Storm Update: Record Heat, Sandbags, and When Tampa Will Likely Get the Worst Weather
This weekend, we won’t have any wild weather other than the usual pop up afternoon storms. But next week it will likely get messy in the Tampa area as a tropical storm could pass by midweek. As for today, we’re good. The weekend still looks fine. We’ll have lots of sun. It’ll just be hot. Really really hot. We’ll have near record high temperatures again today.
The Florida Sales Tax Free weekend on hurricane-preparation begins today. It’s good timing. You can save on everything from toilet paper to flashlights to portable radios. Also sandbags can be found this weekend in New Port Richey at Magnolia Valley Golf Course and in St. Pete at the Pavement and Traffic Operations Building at 1744 9th Avenue North.
The worst of the weather for the Tampa area still looks to be Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. There’s now a 90% chance of cyclone formation in the next 7 days. While chances of a full-blown hurricane are less likely, it does look like a tropical storm could impact Tampa Bay. Most forecasters think that by tomorrow (Sunday) night, we’ll known the storm’s strength and track.
The National Weather Service in Tampa says this weekend is when to look up the information on your neighborhood. Are you in a flood-prone area? Do you know your evacuation zone? And they encourage you to consider the threats of storm surge, flooding, and strong winds. Clear your yard of debris and charge up those power banks to prepare for possible power outages.
