Remember a couple of weeks ago where 3-year-old twins were found dead on a Florid highway? Well, we now know why. From the beginning, the information pointed to the mother having something to do with it. Sadly the information was right. This incident happened in Miami which is about 4 hours from where I live in St. Petersburg.
Mother Arrested After Her Twins Were found unresponsive on Highway
Shirlene Napoleon Alcime was booked into jail this week following her arrest on February 6th. The woman has been charged with two counts of child neglect causing great bodily harm. This is after her twins were found unresponsive on a Florida highway. She told Miami-Dade police that she planned to commit suicide after killing them.
On February 2nd Miami-Dade police responded to an emergency call which involved two children near the off-ramp on interstate 95 onto the Florida Turnpike extension. Detectives say 3-year-old twins were found in the backseat of an SUV foaming at the mouth. While this was happening, their mother Shirlene had jumped over the railing of the on-ramp, which landed her on the train tracks below.
Shirlene survived, but the twins were pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital. Shirlene who was in a coma has now been booked into jail. According to the arrest report on February 5th, Shirlene “admitted to planning for approximately the last two months, the murder of the two victims and her suicide. She stated that she had made the decision, due to her current financial status and multiple debt(s) that she owes.”
Even thought she admits to have planned the murders, she did not tell police what she gave the twins. Police say additional charges may follow pending the outcome of a toxicology report on the children. She is expected to face a judge today, February 16th.
Such a sad story, may those sweet innocent babies rest in peace. WPG LOCAL 10 Reported the story and due to restrictions you can only watch it here.
Which Florida City Made The List With Highest Murder Rates In U.S.
There's lots to love about the Sunshine State, but we're also notorious for the craziest crimes. One Florida city even ranked in the top 15 for highest murder rates in America. It's not really a list we love to see Florida on, but we can't say we're not surprised with all the insane stuff that happens here.
Our friends at neighboorhoodscout.com ranked the top 30 cities in the country with the highest murder rates per 1,000 residents. They condensed their research by including cities with 25,000 or more people. They collected their data by the number of murders reported to the FBI to have occurred in each city, and the population of each city. The city population data comes straight from the US Bureau of the Census at the time of each analysis. For instance, the 2022 list population uses 2020 population figures. The 2021 list uses 2019 figures, and so forth.
There were 14 new cities making the list this year. "The newcomer on this list with the highest murder rate is Saginaw, MI. The number of murders in Saginaw more than doubled from the previous year." Thankfully (and surprisingly) only one Florida city was ranked in the research.
