Florida Man Has Standoff With The Police After Setting His Ex-Girlfirend’s House On Fire
James Hines of Brooksville has been accused of setting his ex girlfriends home on fire before getting into a hour long standoff with Hernando County deputies last week. Hines was accused of buying gloves, a face mask and a small amount of gasoline at a Speedway convenience store.
Less than two hours later, his ex-girlfriends home went up in flames. His ex lived on Pryor Street which is the same street he asked the Speedway clerk for directions to.
The Ex-girlfriend survived and showed text messages to police that Hines sent her.He was unhappy about their recent breakup, and threatened to “burn the house down, with both of them inside.” When deputies showed up to Hines home, he tried to escape trough a window.
Hines had a gun and pointed at the police as he tried to escape and even yelled that he would kill them. The standoff ended with Hines being rushed to the hospital to treat his non life-threatening injuries. He was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder, first degree arson, making written threats to kill or injure, unlawful use of a two-way communications device, two counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement and two counts of resisting arrest with violence.

To find the most dangerous cities in Florida, Property Club analyzed crime and violent crime rates throughout the state. They used data from the FBI crime data explorer. The explorer was for crime rates in 2020 and 2021. They also used the Florida Department of Law Enforcement annual report from 2022.
