Baby Found Dead In A Garbage Can At The University Of Tampa
Sadly you read the headline right. ” Baby found dead in a garbage can at the University of Tampa.” This tragic incident hits close to home. I live in St. Petersburg which is only 24 minutes away form the University of Tampa’s Campus. Tampa police have launched an investigation to find out what exactly happened to this sweet innocent baby.
Sunday A Baby Was Found Dead At The University Of Tampa
On Sunday around 7pm, officers arrived to the University Of Tampa. They were not prepared for what they were about to find. A baby was found dead and abandoned near McKay Hall. According to reports, the baby was wrapped in a towel and placed in a garbage bin.
Tampa Police chief Bercaw released a statement saying, “As our department actively investigates this incident, we want all expectant mothers to know there are resources available.” The baby girl was taken to a medical examiner for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Where is/was the mother? Police say she was found and taken to a nearby hospital
The University is currently cooperating with the Tampa Bay Police department on the investigation. They are also offering resources such as counseling to the campus community. I will keep you updated on this story as soon as I hear more. If you get information before me, feel free to email me to Babs@wild941.com.
Florida’s Safe Haven Law
Florida has a Safe Haven Law which allows parents to surrender an unharmed newborn infant seven days old or younger to any fire station, EMS station, or hospital staffed by full time emergency paramedics, firefighters or medical technicians. The parents can do this anonymously. There will be no questions asked or no charges filed.
There are options, so please never think you have to resort to extreme measures. The National Safe Haven Alliance Hotline number is 888-510-2229.
