Yes… Bert and Ernie Were Written as a Gay Couple
Before Will & Grace and Modern Family, there apparently was Bert and Ernie.
Longtime Sesame Street script and songwriter Mark Saltzman says the two puppets were written as a gay couple. The relationship between the two was always ambiguous at best over the years but people assumed the two were gay after so many years. Now, we have the confirmation.
“I don’t think I’d know how else to write them, but as a loving couple,” he told an interview with Queerty.
