Winery Spills 97,000 Gallons Of Red Wine Down The Drain
That sound you just heard was a million soccer moms crying in agony, as nearly 100,000 gallons of red wine spilled down the drain.
The tragedy took place at California’s Rodney Strong Estates winery, where a 97,000-gallon tank of cabernet sauvignon sprang a leak on Wednesday.
Some of the spilled wine was pumped into another tank, but most of it went down the sewer drains or into the vineyard’s ponds and river, which were left “foamy with red wine”.
At $27 a bottle, it adds up to a million-dollar loss for the winery, while state wildlife officials investigate whether any environmental damage was done.
