Florida Authorities Launch Manhunt For Those Responsible For Killing 2 Dolphins
Federal authorities have joined Florida officials in solving the murders of two dolphins, offering a $20,000 reward for assistance in bringing the killer to justice.
The bolstered investigation comes a week after two dead dolphins were found off Florida’s coast — one near the shore of Naples, the other along Pensacola Beach in the Florida Panhandle. Each died a “gruesome” death after suffering gunshot and stab wounds, according to the state’s Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Experts say Florida tourists often feed dolphins, making the water mammals too comfortable around humans. As a result, they get too close to aggressive humans before they sense danger. Since 2002, at least 29 dolphins have been killed by humans in the area, the commission reports.
