Flight Attendant Fired For Being Less Than 2 Pounds Overweight
It’s not just your baggage that has to conform to weight limits before boarding a plane.
After 25 years with Malaysia Airlines, Ina Meliesa Hassim was fired for being less than 2 pounds heavier than what the company considers a “healthy” body mass index. At 5-foot-2, the flight supervisor tipped the scales at 136 pounds.
While Hassim filed a wrongful termination suit, a Malaysian court sided with the carrier, saying earlier this month that she’s at fault for not maintaining the “optimal weight”.
The court ruled that the company’s policy is necessary to “maintain its image as a premium airline”.
