CANCELLED: ‘Captain Underpants’ Book Pulled Over Concerns of ‘Passive Racism’
Scholastic has pulled a book written by the “Captain Underpants” author because they think one book promoted “passive racism.”
They will no longer print the book, fulfill orders or distribute it anywhere. The decision was made with the “full support” of the book’s author.
They didn’t point out any specifics from the 2010 book “The Adventures of Ook and Gluk: Kung-Fu Cavemen from the Future” but said it contained passive racism.
“But this week it was brought to my attention that this book also contains harmful racial stereotypes and passively racist imagery. I wanted to take this opportunity to publicly apologize for this. It was and is wrong and harmful to my Asian readers, friends, and family, and to all Asian people.”
