Florida Approves Deal For Las Vegas-Style Casinos, Online Sports Betting
Florida and The Seminole Tribe have gotten closer to sports betting as state legislature voted on an agreement about gambling.
Good news for some sports betting fanatics! The Florida State Senate and House each approved the deal negotiated by Governor Ron DeSantis. The deal includes the addition of Las Vegas-style games such as roulette and craps to Seminole casinos. Also, sports betting will be available through the Seminole tribe with mobile apps. Parimutuel sites such as racetracks and jai-alai frontons and would also offer sports betting.
The deal is will bring in hundreds of millions to both the Seminole Tribe and the state. The sports betting part of the deal is still under examination. It all go away if it ends up violating legal barriers that control gambling. If they decide to keep it running, the measure would allow legal gamblers to wager on sports using their cellular phones in Florida beginning October 15th.
In a press release from the Florida Senate, Senate President Wilton Simpson said:
“By comprehensively addressing issues raised for almost a decade, this historic legislation restores Florida’s relationship with the Seminole Tribe, offers new opportunities for Florida’s legacy parimutuel industry, and provides substantial new revenues for our state.”
The Senate voted to approve, 38 to 1, while the House voted 97-17.
