Florida City Named One Of The Most Underrated Destinations Cities In The US
Florida City is named one of the most underrated destination cities in the US. It’s not L.A., New York, Miami or Honolulu. This gulf coast town is not one of those high-profile vacation destinations. Perhaps it should be.
Huffington Post put together a list of underrated travel destinations. Seventeen cities that they suggest for an upcoming vacation. They looked at towns ‘worth exploring.’ Activities, culture, history and food all played into the results.
One of the cities that made the list is in our backyard. Which Florida city is it?
Tarpon Springs
Huffington Post described the town of Tarpon Springs. They pointed out the town has the highest percentage of Greek Americans of any city in the United States. Yes, that means Greek food. Locals will tell you the Greek food from Tarpon Springs is the best around.
Tarpon Springs also is home to the sponge docks (hence the SpongeBob SquarePants photo lol), Fred Howard Park and Sunset Beach. Those are the top three attractions according to Tripadvisor.com. If you enjoy classic arcade video games and pinball, they’re home to Replay Museum. You can also find St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral, where you can experience the annual Epiphany Celebration.
The other “underrated cities” on the list included: Greenville, South Carolina; Hood River, Oregon; Memphis, Tennessee; Wiscasset, Maine; Cleveland, Ohio; Bentonville, Arkansas; Des Moines, Iowa; Providence, Rhode Island; Cody, Wyoming; Charlottesville, Virginia; Leavenworth, Washington; Taos, New Mexico; Gulf Shores, Alabama; Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota; Stanley, Idaho; Athens, Georgia.
