Florida Sheriff Greets Internet Troll At Airport Then Escorts Him To Jail
You may be reading about this more often. The Volusia County Sheriff’s office is cracking down on internet trolls who think it’s funny to threaten people online. In fact, they were able to arrest a New Jersey man who was allegedly making deadly threats towards Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood. Before he was escorted to jail, the 38 year-old Jersey native was greeted by the Florida Sheriff at a Florida airport on Monday, March 27.
According to News Channel 8, Richard Golden had allegedly made online threats to Mike Chitwood earlier this month. He was threatening that someone should “shoot him in the head so he stops being a problem.” Golden apparently wrote these threats after the Florida Sheriff condemned antisemitism in Volusia County. Golden was charged with making a written threat to kill or cause injury. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood had some words for him as he got off the escalator at Orlando-Sanford International Airport.
Chitwood waited until he was face to face with the man to introduce himself. He tried to coax a reaction from him by adding “Anything you want to…?” But of course, internet trolls aren’t great at real-life conversations, so he just moved past Chitwood and ignored him. VCSO posted a video of the interaction on their Facebook page, check it out below.
Golden was arrested at his mother’s home in New Jersey. She claimed to the officers that he is unemployed and spends most of his time on the internet. News Channel 8 reported on Chitwood’s reaction from the meeting “think they won’t be held accountable. Well, we’re going to hold you accountable.”
The Sheriff’s Office is currently looking into more traceable online threats. Chitwood say he may be out here doing this again.
