Woman Steals Uber Car For Driver Being ‘Too Slow’
As passengers of Uber, we can all relate to a bad ride. Whether it is awkward interactions with the driver, them taking the wrong directions, or just simply them picking up the wrong passenger. I’m sure everyone has at least one nightmare Uber story to tell. However, have you ever taken the time to sympathize with the driver for once? I did after I read this story. A Texas woman stole the car from her Uber driver because he was going “too slow”.
Normally this is something that would be attached to a “Florida Man” headline. But this story begins in Austin, Texas with Neusha Afkami. According to an arrest affidavit, Afkami ordered Uber just before 12:30 AM on Sunday to take her to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport from her hotel. During her ride, the 27-year-old became impatient and started showing signs of frustration for how long the trip was taking. Afkami then threw the Uber driver’s phone out the window. The driver initially believed that the throw was in frustration, but it turned out it was just a distraction.
While the driver left the vehicle to retrieve their phone, Afkami jumped in the front seat of the 2016 Chevrolet Cruz and decided to drive herself to the airport. The stranded driver called the police and reported the crime. When police located the vehicle at a terminal of the Austin airport, they also found Afkami before she could board the plane. Not only did Afkami steal the vehicle, but also used the Uber driver’s wallet and credit card several times to buy items from the airport that totaled $130.
All the items purchased on the credit card were found in Afkami’s possession. When Afkami was questioned, Afkami claimed she and the Uber driver were arguing over how long the drive was taking, so she told the Uber driver, “I need to get to the airport, so I’m going to take your car and drop it off at Southwest Airlines.” Afkami is now in Travis County Jail on a $16,000 bond charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
What is the craziest Uber interaction you ever had?
