Why You Should Adopt From The Humane Society of Tampa Bay
Growing up I’ve always had a ton of animals around me from iguanas, fish, cats and dogs. However, the cats were always my responsibility which I absolutely loved. Currently, I have one cat I adopted four years ago named Oscar who is the sweetest Persian cat. But I always got the feeling he was a lonely, especially since husband and I work all the time. Oscar has always been well taken care of especially since I have two daughters who constantly want to play with him. Growing up with so many animals I could tell he would most likely enjoy having another cat to bond and get old with in the house.
Adopting A Kitten From The Humane Society of Tampa Bay:
I started doing some research and contacted The Humane Society of Tampa about adopting a new kitten. Not only were they very responsive but they were extremely helpful answering all my questions. I hadn’t adopted from a Humane Society since I was a kid and of course it was my mother helping through the process. So, this was all new to me. One thing I had no idea about,; they post pictures and videos of all new animals up for adoption on their website. You can check it daily looking for certain animal, like a bunny rabbit or dog.
We were looking to adopt a new kitten around Christmas to surprise my two daughters. Though they had several kittens in their care, many of them were under the weather at this time. But one kitten was healthy and ready to be adopted! His name at that time was Ginger and they immediately sent me photos. I kept staring at his photo and knew he would be the perfect addition to our household. Taking care of a new kitten is a lot of responsibility and you need to be prepared for it.
I went to The Humane Society of Tampa Bay to meet him and make sure we had a connection. I also wanted to check and make sure he had a sweet personality. The first time I met him I fell in love. I knew he would be a great addition to our family and a fun buddy for my other cat Oscar. I took the entire family to the Humane Society to adopt our new kitten and so my daughter’s could meet him. They were nervous at first but loved him right away.
Before we left with the new kitty we bought several things in their pet shop. We bought a carrier, toys, litter box and treats. Before leaving they thoroughly go over the animals medical records. When he arrived, any issues and diseases he had and vaccinations. We adopted him fixed, healthy with every shot he needed and a chip already implanted in him in case he escapes. It was the easiest and most informative process I’ve ever been though and I couldn’t be more grateful for everyone’s help.
What Is Scent Swapping And Why It’s Important:
We renamed the kitten Kevin and did scent swapping to make sure the cats to get to know each other in a healthy way. I kept Kevin away from Oscar for eight days but would swap out the kitties and put them in the others room so they could smell one another without eye contact. After eight days of doing this I introduced Kevin to Oscar and although I was worried everything worked perfectly. They’re now best friends and play all the time! I highly recommend going through The Humane Society of Tampa Bay whenever you want to add a furry friend to your family. Scroll down to see the first time Oscar and Kevin met each other.
