This Florida City Was Named One Of The Worst Cities For Child Abuse
If there is one thing I’ve learned, is that I don’t know everything. It’s hard to admit because I like to talk on the radio as if I do, but I have a lot to learn. For example, I just learned the month of April was National Child Abuse Prevention Month. I also learned that Tampa was named one of THE WORST cities for child abuse and neglect.
Child Abuse And Neglect Statistics In Tampa Bay
Thanks to Lydia Vazquez and her article in ABC Action News, I am now more aware of the unfortunate statistics in our neighboring cities and why National Child Abuse Prevention Month is so important. This is the reason why Tampa has been colored blue all month.
According to Champions for Children, 1 in 7 children will suffer from abuse or neglect at some point in their life. And Tampa is one of the top-rated when it comes to child abuse cases. However, they aren’t the only city nearby with horrible statistics. Pinellas County is right up there with Hillsborough County, and together account for about 88 cases daily.
Champions for Children’s mission is to bring awareness to what’s happening right here in Tampa Bay. Brandy Gottlieb, Director of Communications and Marketing, told ABC “Bringing awareness to the issues happening right here in Tampa Bay can change a child’s life”.
Champions of Children also provides services to help pregnant women prepare for childbirth, the knowledge they need to provide a healthy home environment and ensure children hit key milestones in their learning and development. By providing these services, Champions Of Children believes they will build strong families, which will in turn prevent child abuse and neglect.
