Custom Walker Stolen From Teen – Community To The Rescue
We talked to St. Pete resident Monique Whitaker about a walker for her special needs son that was stolen from their front porch. Listen to the audio above about the situation and hear someone special come to the rescue.
How could someone steal from a special needs teenager? Sadly, that’s exactly what happened to a 15-year-old St. Petersburg boy who has Hunter Syndrome, autism and scoliosis.
The walker helped Michael Whitaker walk independently and was unfortunately stolen over the weekend from their front porch. His family is asking for whoever has it to please bring it back because the teen needs it and to get a new one will take months.
The boy’s illnesses cause skeletal abnormalities, hearing loss and more… The walker is custom-made so he can sit and take breaks whenever he needs. Although, his mother has cameras outside of the house the theft wasn’t captured because the power went out during a storm.
