Two Sisters Smuggle $40,000 Worth Of Cocaine Off Florida Cruise Ship
Two sisters thought they could smuggle several kilograms of cocaine off of their cruise ship. They boarded the MSC Seascape Cruise Ship which was a weeklong cruise departing from Mexico on July 16, 2023. The ship visited the Bahamas, Jamaica, and Mexico during the trip. When the cruise returned back to Miami, on July 23, the sisters had to go through US Customs and Border Protection once the ship docked. That’s when officers started to conduct an “enforcement operation” and found the drugs. They were actually hidden inside the sisters’ shared cabin at that time.
How did the two sisters smuggle cocaine off the ship:
The officers then asked the two sisters to bring their luggage for a secondary inspection. That’s when a narcotic detection dog alerted the officers that their were drugs. They then separated the sisters so they could each be searched apart from one another. Federal investigators found two packages of cocaine totaling 4.75 kilograms. The cocaine is valued between $15,000 and $40,000.
The sisters denied knowledge of the drugs in their luggage. They came up with a quick excuse saying that a friend they met in Jamaica gave the, a bag to hold. Police looked at phone records that showed one of the sisters text someone named “Kenny Jamaica” two days before the trip. For now, no charges have been filed against the sisters.
