Baby Dolphin Dead After Florida Man Takes Picture For Instagram
Another innocent animal is dead all because a Florida man wanted a photo with it for social media. When is this terrible trend going to end? We’ve heard of sharks, fish and dolphins in the past but to take a defenseless baby dolphin out of the water all for a photo is beyond disgusting.
How Did The Baby Dolphin Die?
A baby dolphin is now dead because Florida man picked it up, out of the water to pose for an Instagram photo. The photo was taken somewhere close to Jacksonville Beach and now police are investigating. Two marine biologists can’t exactly tell if the dolphin was live or dead when the photo was taken. But if it was out of the water for a long time, the calf wouldn’t have survived for long. Dr. Quincy Gibson who works at the University of North Florida was notified by the Florida Wildlife Investigators about the death last Wednesday. In the photo it shows a 1-year-old male calf that was reported dead by a biologist in the photo.
But in a new photo taken by investigators, the dolphin is seen bloated and bleeding around its mouth, which Gibson said is part of the decomposition process. Looking at the photo and comparing it to the dead baby dolphin everyone is in agreement that it’s the same calf. Gibson said, “You can tell by the dorsal fin because each one is unique. The shape matches the one in the photo where the dolphin’s being held, so highly likely.”
After the massive backlash online, the person who posted it defended themselves insisting it was an accident. At one point saying, “what ever once in a lifetime to catch a dolphin as bycatch from the shore.” In case you’re not aware, experts say that removing dolphins from the water can result in them being crushed by the weight of their own bodies. For now, the people involved in the photo are not facing any criminal charges.
