Terror As Severe Turbulence Bounces St. Pete – Clearwater Flight
Wednesday afternoon, Allegiant Air passengers and flight attendants experienced grave terror as severe turbulence bounces St. Pete – Clearwater flight. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Allegiant Flight 227 encountered turbulence while on approach to St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport around 3:45pm. Of the 179 passengers onboard and 6 crew members, 4 were transported to the hospital for medical attention. Words such as “petrifying” and “heart-stopping” were share by passengers after landing. One passenger likened the sight of a flight attendant floating to the ceiling as “looked like the matrix“. Social media reflects the utter terror as severe turbulence bounces St. Pete – Clearwater flight.
Personally, I’m super close with country comedic star Cledus T. Judd and in my years working down the hall from him, he refused to fly. Cledus also hit the roof of a plane, broke his nose and was convinced he was going to die. I watched him drive over 1000 miles, from Tampa to Ashland, Kentucky, to see his daughter every other weekend. Imagine making that trip and heading to work Monday morning. Stars such as Snoop Dogg, DJ Khaled, and Busta Rhymes all had bouts where they refused to fly, and it made tour dates hard to book. Many WiLDsplash and Last Damn Show lineups had to be routed to get them in by bus because planes were a no-go!
What Is Turbulence?
Every explanation is reminding me that I’m only a DJ. The most common definition is a “sudden, violent shift in airflow“. It can be caused by wind, jet stream, storms and objects by the plane (such as mountains). And I thought is was flying through clouds. Smh. Wednesday’s scare was likely due to “clear turbulence” which happens when cold and warm air meet and Flight 227’s decent could’ve placed it in the necessary 18,000 to 36,000 feet.
