Man Accused Of Killing Husband After Making His GoFundMe Page
I don’t know about you guys, but I become skeptical every time I see a GoFundMe page now. For the last couple of months, I have seen countless pages get taken down for some sketchy reasons. I’ve seen some pages use the money for their own luxuries, some others blatantly lie about sickness, but this new headline is the worst of them all. Man Accused Of Killing Husband After Making His GoFundMe Page.
Herbert Swilley was arrested on Friday for allegedly killing his husband and staging a fake crime scene. This comes several months after the husband’s death and Swilley made thousands off a GoFundMe page he made in his honor. What was thought to be a peculiar case, is finally getting some answers.
On March 25th, police were called to the couples Ocala apartment to administer a wellness check since Timothy Smith didn’t show up for work. That is when officers found the 59 year-olds body and what seemed to be a crime scene that displayed a “violent attack”. After an investigation, Marion County sheriffs office found that Smith had more than 30 times the normal dose of diphenhydramine at the time of his death. This is an ingredient you usually find in medicines like Benadryl. This new revelation made Swilley the main suspect.
For the next couple of months, investigators went the surveillance footage, spoke to witnesses , and did everything they could to find out what really happened to Smith. It was not till they spoke with Swilley when they started to piece everything together. Swilley’s statement was “false, self-serving, or contradicted by other evidence,” Marion County Sheriffs said.
Now Swilley is facing 1st degree premeditated murder and tampering with evidence charges. Swilley’s daughter is also rumored to be a person of interest in the investigation.
