Tampa Club Goes Up In Flames
My favorite Tampa club to eat & DJ at caught on fire Saturday night.
Popular Latin spot, Mamajuana Café operates as a restaurant by day & at night in the back, they have a tiki hut where they throw some of the livest parties and live shows. I’ve had the pleasure of DJing at this spot, and it has always been a good time, just the ambiance of this place, and of course, the food & vibes, are just some of the clientele that keep on coming back.
On the night of Saturday, April 6th, an unfortunate event occurred at the spot, that many have dubbed the top spot in Tampa for Latin cuisine and parties. The tiki hut at Mamajuna caught on fire. Saturday night is usually a night when the tiki operates as an outdoor club. Fortunately, the people who were in the building at the time were able to evacuate with no harm done.
There has been clear indication as to why the tiki hut caught fire Saturday night but, it is under investigation. Now, Mamajuana (formally known as Green Gators) will rebuild the tiki & hope to be back and operating as the nightclub, Vibras, real soon.
I have no clear indication yet if the restaurant side has continued to operate. They did post on social media that they intend to open the restaurant as soon as possible but must follow state guidelines and inspections in order to reopen.
When they do open for business again, make sure to go show them some love. I love the mofongo and this place is one of the most underrated sushi joints in Tampa.
