3 Men Shot, 2 Fatally, in Overnight SOHO District Dispute
Terrible news out of the Tampa Bay area overnight! An argument erupted around 3 a.m. on South Howard Avenue located in the SOHO District. Police said two groups of men who knew one another started an argument, and gun fire played out into the streets. This area has a very long strip of bars and restaurants that travel all the way down to Bayshore Blvd.
Overnight Shooting in Tampa’s SOHO District:
The incident took place right outside of Jimmy John’s in ‘The Shop’s of Howard Avenue’ shopping center located in the SOHO District. Residents could hear gun shots just before 3 a.m. in the early morning hours. When Tampa Police responded to a nearby parking lot and found three injured men. All of them were immediately transported to nearby hospitals but two of them succumbed to their injuries. Two men were killed, and one man is still being hospitalized from the early morning shooting.
According to WFLA, Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw held a press conference about the incident. He calmly explained that two groups of people got into an altercation, and it quickly escalated. The argument turned into gunplay in the blink of an eye. Jimmy John’s on South Howard Avenue was swiftly blocked off with caution tape so police could do their investigation. Chief Lee Bercaw said, “We do know that the group’s knew each other and had a beef with one another. What we don’t have is video at this point and we’re asking the public which we know people were out here filming this to share that with us, as we are trying to unfold the details of this investigation.”
