Big Pay Day For Bucs Star Player
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers really found a gem in the 2nd round of the 2020 NFL Draft. It was 45th pick, Antoine Winfield Jr. from the University of Minnesota. Winfield Jr.’s immediate impact on defense really helped the Tampa Bay Bucs secure their 2nd Super Bowl in franchise history, in just his rookie year.
Since Winfield’s stellar rookie year & starting off his career winning a Super Bowl, he continued to put up big numbers through the fours he’s been playing the safety position. In 2021, he earned his first Pro Bowl after finishing 2 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, 2 interceptions, 6 sacks & 88 tackles combined. His work ethic & dedication to being the top Defensive Back continued in ’22 & ’23. Last year in 2024, he led the NFL in forced fumbles, while also recording 122 combined tackles & 3 interceptions.
During that 2024 season, Winfield was franchise tagged by the Bucs and today, he is now the highest paid Defensive Back in the NFL. Antoine signed a four-year $84 million contract to stay with the Bucs. With the nice resume he’s built with Tampa Bay, Winfield is very much deserving of this contract that is the first one given out, at that amount, given to the Safety position.
We look forward to seeing more big plays on the defensive side of the ball in Raymond James Stadium from number 31 as the Winfield Jr. & the Bucs look to continue the success they had last year post-Tom Brady. The Bucs announce their new schedule for the 2024-25 season on Wednesday March 15th at 8pm. Teams included in the schedule are, the Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, & a rematch from this past seasons playoff divisional round against the Detroit Lions. Get ready to fire those cannon’s Tampa!
