Florida Man Riding Electric Scooter Ran Over Protected Birds, Police Investigating
Florida Police are investigating after a viral video showed a man riding his electric scooter on the beach, driving right into a colony of protected birds. The Indian Shores Police Department said officers are looking to identify the terrible man who was caught on camera. In the video, you can see him riding an electric scooter directly into a colony of protected birds with one dying.

The incident occurred on July 19 on Redington Shores Beach. A professional photographer and volunteer Robert Truesdell witnessed the event and took his video to and posted it on social media. According to ABCActionNews, Truesdell said, “Just terrible, he went around me and then went up into the birds there were Royal Terns, Black Skimmers, other kinds of birds that are up there and he ran right into where they all were. I figured he got a kick out of watching them fly and, unfortunately, he ended up running over one of them.” Because of this terrible and cruel incident, police have stated that there is an open investigation. sadly, it’s been confirmed that the Royal Tern later died, and the man could face an animal cruelty charge.
Many birds are protected by Florida including Black Skimmers because they’re a threatened species. The Migratory Bird Act is federal and Royal Terns are protected by the Migratory Bird Act.
