Florida Boaters Rescued After Lightning Strikes Boat
A fishing tournament went from fun to scary in a flash! Seven people had to be rescued by the Coast Guard after the boat they were in was struck by lightning. The fishing crew was about 100 miles off the coast of Clearwater when the lightning hit the boat. It’s amazing that no one was seriously injured, but the strike damaged the boat’s engine leaving the group stranded.
Thankfully the group had a emergency position-indicating radio beacon, that transmitted a continuous radio signal allowing the Coast Guard to find their location. You can see the lightning strike and rescue in the video below from Fox 13:
