Orlando And The Freakshow Take The Pledge
As radio hosts, we understand that there is power behind the things that we say. A life can be changed forever with as little as a single phrase or an uplifting word. Which is why Orlando and the Freakshow take the pledge. Will you take the pledge with us?
The R-Word Pledge
According to the spreadtheword website, “By taking the pledge for Spread the Word, you are stepping into the role of a leader committed to shaping a more inclusive world. Your pledge signifies a powerful stance against derogatory language targeted at individuals with intellectual disabilities. Your commitment calls for change, inspiring others to follow suit and join the collective effort to eliminate discriminatory language. Together, we can create a society where everyone is valued, celebrated, and free from the impact of harmful stereotypes.”
For those of you still wondering what “The Pledge” is and how to get involved, you can get more information by going to R-Word.Org. Not only will the website explain to you what the pledge actually is, but it will also showcase everyone else taking it and what they have done to make a difference in the world. By taking the pledge, you promise to stop using the “R” word and join in taking action for inclusion in communities everywhere.
The Conversation And Audio
This topic came up on the The Freakshow due to Craig Woodard Senior and what he’s been hearing on his local radio stations. Woodard has heard too many people using the R-word casually and wants it to stop. Since Craig is father to Craig Jr., a child with Down Syndrome, he and his wife have made it their mission to help other parents of children with Down Syndrome. That includes providing many avenues for resources and support as well as acting as an amazing spokesperson and advocate for The Rise Up for Down Syndrome Gala. This Gala is a way to raise funds and also a way to celebrate everyone involved with this powerful nonprofit organization.
Craig Sr. sat down with Orlando and the Freakshow to talk about his concerns with the word, his organization, and ways we can all contribute to help. Check out the audio right here.
