Lakeland Woman Killed By Drunk Driver On Christmas Eve
This story is so sad, “Lakeland woman killed by drunk driver on Christmas Eve.” Lakeland is about an hour and 30 minutes from where I live in St. Petersburg. Please people call a ride share service. Drinking and driving is never worth it.
Woman In Motorized Scooter Was Killed By Drunk Driver In Lakeland
On Christmas Eve, Leslie Stone was riding down West Pipkin road in Lakeland on a motorized wheelchair. Sadly she was hit and killed by a car. Police say Howard Bennett was driving east on West Pipkin road when he hit Stone.
When police arrived to the scene they found that Bennett was stumbling while walking. He was also using their vehicle for support. According to the police report Bennett had bloodshot watery eyes , slurred speech and smelled like alcohol.
Of course Bennett failed the sobriety test and was taken into custody. He blew twice the legal limit. He has been charged with DUI manslaughter , DUI with property damage and he was booked into the Polk County jail.
Leslie Stone Leaves Behind Her Loved Ones
Leslie Stone leaves behind her three children, her mother and sister. Her children are ages 3, 17 and 24. According to Stones sister, “We had seen her 20 minutes before she walked out that door and everything was fine. Ten minutes later, I’m driving down the road and she is laying there in a body bag. She was the type of person that would give you the shirt off her back. She got joy out of seeing other people happy, even if she didn’t have it.”
This is so sad and could have been avoided. Leslie Stone did not make it to spend Christmas with her kids. Her 3-year-old is probably so sad and wondering her his mommy is.
Please be safe this holiday season and don’t drink and drive.
