Florida Teacher Fired And Arrested For Punching Autistic Student
There are a few things that will get you immediately fired as a teacher. Coming in late will most likely get you reprimanded. Talking badly about your superiors will probably get you a slap on the wrist. However, punching a student? That will most definitely get you terminated. That is why Prechae Rodriguez is now unemployed. This Florida teacher is accused of punching a nine-year-old student with autism.
The Story
Rodriguez worked as a behavior support teacher for Eisenhower Exceptional Center on February 8th. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office, Rodriguez was involved in an incident with a nonverbal autistic student where the student hit Rodriguez. The 39-year-old then punched the child in response, making the student fall to the ground.
“No child, under any circumstance, should be subject to this level of violence. There is no place for the abuse of children in our schools or in our community, and our detectives will continue to work to ensure that all of our students are protected.” Sheriff Chad Chronister told News Channel 8.
Rodriguez has since been terminated from the school according to Hillsborough County Public School records. He now faces a charge of child abuse. In Florida, child abuse is charged as a third-degree felony. This means that if he is convicted, Rodriguez faces a maximum of five years imprisonment or five years probation, as well as a maximum of $5,000 in fines.
