Big 3 Was a Big Win In Tampa
What a day it was for some great basketball at the Yuengling Center at the University of South Florida campus. Ice Cube was in town, and he brought his Big 3 basketball event with him. Big 3 has been in motion now for a few years now and has gotten bigger and better every year. Ice Cube really knows how to really capture the essence of hip-hop and basketball and mash them together to present basketball fans with a fresh new experience that the entire family can enjoy.
I personally love watching the Big 3 because a good number of players I grew up watching participate in there, either playing or coaching. So, to see greats like Julius Erving, George Gervin, Jason Richardson, and Mike Bibby under one roof is a surreal moment. I couldn’t believe I was there on the same court with these legends.
Thanks to Cube and the team over at Big 3 for having Orlando from The Freakshow and I to come and co-host the event here in Tampa. We welcomed all the fans and listeners alike and had the best seat in the house. It was the second time in my life I got to sit courtside but, the first time being up close and personal with former NBA legends. The highlight of my afternoon was sitting right next to NBA Hall Of Famer Gary Payton. Gary was coaching but his energy and intensity talking to his guys is the same fire he had when I watched him play. When I played basketball, Payton was a player I tried to model my game after. He had it all, he can score and was arguably the best defender in the league during his tenure.
The other great highlight, and honestly the best one, was being able to share the moment courtside with my family. My girl, daughter and mom were in attendance, and it was an amazing time for all of us and I am looking forward to Big 3 coming back to Tampa.
