There has been a long battle In Tampa Bay between several fantastic meteorologists and who is everyone’s favorite. Two of them always stand out as the best bringing comfort during severe weather. We’re going to breakdown the two best local meteorologists with one added honorable mention that Floridians constantly view.
Who Are The Best Meteorologists In Tampa Bay:
When it comes to meteorologists you look for dependability, extensive knowledge, comfort and longevity. All of these characteristics play a huge role especially when traumatic and often scary weather is approaching. Two of the biggest names here in Tampa Bay are always mentioned and constantly bring in the highest ratings. Of course, we’re talking about ABC Action News Chief Meteorologist Denis Phillips and Fox 13 Chief Meteorologist Paul Dellagatto. It’s often debated who has the best information or who is more knowledgeable but for the most part it’s an easy choice for most. There are plenty of wonderful meteorologists in the area however these two are the most mentioned.
Denis Phillips also known as ‘The Suspenders’ is an iconic Chief Meteorologist that has helped Tampa Bay through plenty of storms and hurricanes over the years. Known for working days at a time with no sleep when severe weather hits the Bay area, he brings a comforting and friendly approach to meteorology. Many fans see him as a friend who has helped residents during their most stressful time in their life. Denis Philips loves his Diet Dr. Pepper with many viewers dropping off cases at a time for him to enjoy while he works. If there’s one thing we’ve learned from Denis it’s his famous Rule #7. Which he repeatedly tells his audience which means, ‘Don’t freak out unless I do.’
Paul Dellagatto has been Chief Meteorologist for a very long time with many fans in Tampa Bay. He took over the position at Fox13 in 1997 when the previous weatherman retired. He’s brought a lot of comfort to views and is well liked all the Bay area. According to FOX13, “Paul is the longest tenured chief meteorologist in Tampa Bay television. He has continued WTVT’s legacy of being a weather pioneer and one of the top television weather departments in the country. He was the first meteorologist in the country to show the various spaghetti models that illustrate the complexity of tracking tropical systems.”

Fort Myers Beach
Fort Myers Beach still has a good amount of damage from the hurricane, but Margaritaville is open, so you’ll find plenty to do there. Situated on Estero Island, Fort Myers Beach is one of the state’s most underrated beaches. At Fort Myers Beach, you’ll find beautiful, white-sand beaches and gorgeous sunsets.

Sarasota
Make sure to visit Siesta Key here, as well as Sarasota Gay Beach and Crescent Beach. Just south of Tampa Bay, Sarasota is a lovely beach town that is especially popular during the holidays. You’ll find lots of local shopping opportunities here.

St. George Island State Park
St. George Island State Park is located on a barrier island fronting the legendary Apalachicola Bay. It’s a great place to gaze at the stars. Note that starting March 1, 2025, the campground at Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park will be closed for an expansion project.

Santa Rosa Beach
If you head to Santa Rosa Beach and want to find some really special, and secret, beaches, try Blue Mountain Beach and Grayton Beach State Park. This beach town is less crowded than most, which makes it a low-key getaway.

Pensacola Beach
Pensacola Beach is located on a 40-mile barrier island, Pensacola Beach, and has beautiful, translucent waters. It’s a really small town, so it’s much less crowded than other beaches. It’s a hidden gem.
