‘Baby Daddy’ Father’s Day Cards Pulled From Shelves As American Greeting And Target Apologize
Well that didn’t take long.
Earlier this week we told you about the ‘baby daddy’ Father’s Day cards at Target and American Greeting and how much negative attention they were getting. Well They’ve already been taken off the shelves!
Via The Shade Room:
According to CBS News, American Greeting said their attempt of being “playful,” completely missed its mark, resulting to the cards being pulled from shelves nationwide.
The front of the card reads the phrase, “Baby Daddy,” with an African American couple kissing, as the inside reads, “You’re a wonderful husband and father — and I’m so grateful to have you as my partner, my friend, and my baby daddy! Happy Father’s Day.”
American Greeting responded to the backlash and said, “Thank you for raising this concern and bringing it to our attention. This card was intended to be a playful husband card, but we have notified the product team that it missed the mark. Please accept our sincerest apologies and know we will do better in the future.”
A spokesperson for Target said, “We were made aware of some concerns about this card last week and are working with our vendor to have it removed from Target stores. We appreciate the feedback and apologize. It’s never our intent to offend any of our guests with the products we sell.”
The company made a point to mention that the message inside the card was overlooked due to the cover, but they notified retailers to remove the cards from their shelves and apologized to anyone that may have taken offense.
